The ground
plan on page 8 shows the interior
arrangement of the two buildings. Attempt
has been made to display the collections
according to a uniform plan as far, as is
consistent with the character of the
building, availability of space and
protection of the exhibits. The basement
contains some stores, workrooms, lecture
theatre, and conservation laboratory and a
part of the Natural History Sections.
Exhibits in the central portion of the
ground floor afford a survey of Indian
Civilization and Art in chronological
sequence, beginning with the small eastern
room containing Pre-historic and
Proto-historic relics and ending in a
similar small room on the west,
introducing Old Baroda Art under the
Gaekwads.
The
galleries and rooms to the North and South
are devoted to other advanced
civilizations of Asia viz., Egypt and
Babylon, the Muslim countries. Nepal and
Tibet, China, Japan and Indonesia. At
present, the upper floor of the museum
houses the natural history, Geology and
Ethnology sections.
The ground
floor of the other building contains a
survey of European Art from early Greek
times to the 20th century. It contains,
besides, special Exhibition Halls and the
Library. The upper floor contains the
Picture Gallery, which displays European
masterpieces of different schools. |
