Management
of SAG
Background
In 1993 the
Government of Gujarat in the Department of
Youth Services and Cultural Activities
adopted the policy to accord more autonomy
to its nodal agencies like Lalit Kala
Academy and Sangeet Natak Kala Academy. In
accordance with this policy, the Government
decided to convert the State Sports Council
(Ramat Gamat Parishad) which was an advisory
body to the Commissioner of Youth Services,
into an autonomous organization to be called
the Sports Authority of Gujarat (hereafter
called SAG). On 6th May 1993, the new
organization was registered as a Society
under Societies Registration Act, 1860. The
sports-related activities being carried by
the Commissioner of Youth Services and the
dealing personnel were transferred to the
SAG in 1995 so as to make the Authority
operational.
