Strategy - Specific Performance
(i).
Nurturing Excellence
Chart 6 offers
a bird’s eye view of activities under this
segment. The SAG strives to nurture
excellence mainly through coaching and
development of school based infrastructure.
-
Coaching is
imparted through DSCCs (District Sports
Coaching Centres). Generally there is a team
of coaches attached to a DSCC and they
device-coaching schedules according to the
local convenience. Sometimes the DSCCs do
not have grounds; in which case coaching is
imparted in a school ground or a public
ground.
-
b. As we have
seen earlier, coaching is also imparted to
children in the schools selected under the
education department's scheme. There is a
provision of hiring part time coaches and so
far 34 coaches have been recruited to coach
in the schools selected under the Education
Department's Scheme. 100 more posts have
been requested.
-
Infrastructure development
-
As we have
earlier seen, there is a scheme of offering
cash assistance upto Rs. 50,000/- towards
purchase of equipment and development of
fields in the rural schools.
-
b. Similarly
under the Education Department's Scheme, 160
schools have been given equipment directly
from SAG in the disciplines allotted to
these schools. 160 schools have been
benefited from the scheme and the details of
disciplines and equipment given to the
schools may be seen at Appendix-6. There is
no upper ceiling of expenditure per school.
