School Oriented Strategies

Coaching school children during school vacations

• This scheme was introduced at the instance of the Chief Secretary who suggested that during the summer vacation when boys and girls are free, they might be offered an opportunity to play and be coached in a variety of sports. The SAG commenced coaching the school children in the age group 8-14 during summer vacations usually for a period of three weeks. During 2005-2006, that is the seventh year of this scheme, vacation camps were held for the school children in which about 1683 Boys & Girls had participated.

Scholarship

• From the inceptions of this scheme in 1999-2000, the quantum of cash scholarship has been increasing year to year. Under the scheme those girls who are ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the State competitions organised by the Commissioner of Youth Services and those who have participated in the SGFI National tournaments, National Women Championship - All India Rural Sports will be eligible to get scholarship. The quantum of cash scholarships is Rs.4800, Rs.3600 and Rs.2400 for the rankers and Rs.4800 for national participants per year.

Yoga and fitness centers in talukas

• To promote yoga a part time yoga instructor have been posted in 22 districts. To improve the fitness awareness among the youth, The multy gym have been provided in same districts. In near future all districts will covered with multy Gym.

Self - defence training to women

• In order to popularise martial arts amongst women and reduce their vulnerability, 18 self - defence centres have been approved during with a provision of a part-time material arts instructor for each of the centres. Required mats have been provided by SAG. 18 centers are already in operation where as recruitment of instructors for remaining centre is in progress.

Village Olympics

• In order to broad base sports at grass root level in rural areas and to bring out the best potentials from the village people to popularise the games in village area, every year during big Mela - a village Olympic is organised at Tarnetar and Devgadh Baria. Last year in 2006-1039 persons have taken part in village olyampic at Tarnetar & winners were given certificate as well as cash prize of Rs.1,40,200/- during 2006 at Devgadh Baria - village olyampic was organised and 2127 villagers took part in this Olympic. A certificate and cash prize of Rs.1,27,800/- the ware given to the winner.

Hosting of National Events

• During 2006-07 52^nd National SGFI Tournament were hosted by Gujarat, the details can be seen in table 13 below.
